THE GOPURAM COLLECTION
This collection draws inspiration from the Gopurams, the monumental gates of the temples of South India.
Korvai is an ancient weaving technique. The word ‘korvai’ in Tamil means to be ‘in sync’.
In this technique the body of the saree is woven separately and the border separately and the two interlocked by skilful weaving. Each saree takes 7 days to weave!
We're bringing back vintage old world charm with these beauties❤️
The Chettinad Kandangi saree was introduced by the Nagarathar community of Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu. The saree has 2 borders on either side of the saree and a chequered body. It is believed that the saree is more than 250 years old!
Records and old photographs show the use of this saree by the previous generations, before the advent of blouses and underskirts, and thus worn rather differently from the typical contemporary saree.
